Schreiner University Shooting Sports


Schreiner University shooting team, while new to Sport & Competitive Programs, is in their 11th year of competition. Student athletes have competed and won at local, regional, state, national and international shotgun sporting events. The team has won the Division III Runner-Up title in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. The team won the National Championship – Division II in 2018!

Shooting team members have an incredible opportunity to train and compete at some of the best facilities in the area; Hill Country Shooting Sports Center, Joshua Creek Ranch and the National Shooting Sports Center. The team is coached by Robert Davis, a certified master skeet instructor from Fredericksburg.

The team competes in a variety of shotgun sport disciplines: American trap, American skeet, International trap, International skeet, Sporting Clays, 5-Stand and super sporting. The team competes in the Association of College Unions International (ACUI).

All shooting team members are expected to maintain minimum grade standards, attend weekly practices, quarterly fundraising events, classroom sessions, and display a respectful image on the field, online and in the classroom.


The shooting team competes in six – eight competitions a year. The collegiate ACUI Shotgun Bowl Series consists of the Lower Midwest International Regional Championships, the Lower Midwest Regional Championships and the ACUI National Championships. The team also sends qualifying squads of shooters to the World Skeet Championships, National Sporting Clay Championships, Professional Sporting Clay Association (PSCA) events as well as local and regional ATA, NSSA, and NSCA events.


Competitive team is comprised of shooters that have shot in 4H, FFA, SCTP, USAYESS and other youth target leagues. Shooters of all abilities are welcome but those that wish to shoot on the competitive team will participate in tryouts in the fall.
