Choir Division

Schreiner Choir is seeking talented musicians to join our program! Students studying any major can join a choir ensemble, as well as continue their vocal training with the option of private voice lessons. Scholarship opportunities are available for Schreiner Choir students.

There are a variety of ways to perform with our ensembles, such as with the Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Women’s Chorus and in our annual musical theater productions.  Each year, members of the Schreiner Choir are featured at both the Christmas Tea and Old Campus Spirits events.  We also sing the National Anthem at various sporting events as well as provide occasional incidental concerts around campus.  Members of the Choir programs can have opportunities to sing annual chorus works with the Symphony of the Hills!

Travel both near and far!  The Schreiner Choir and Music Department have a history of global travel and those opportunities will continue for students in the future.  We also occasionally travel locally, visiting beautiful performance venues throughout Texas.  At home in the Hill Country, we also visit local grade schools for concerts and recruiting opportunities.

Welcome Ms. Alexis Korbe, new Coordinator of University Choirs!

Alexis Korbe is a lyric mezzo soprano, flutist, collaborative pianist, and is the Coordinator of Choral Activities at Schreiner University.  Originally from Hays, Kansas, she holds a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance and a Bachelor of Arts in French from Fort Hays State University. In 2012, Alexis started her graduate work at Wichita State University where she held a Graduate Administrative Assistantship as well as a Graduate Staff Assistantship. Alexis finished a Master of Music in Flute Performance with Dr. Frances Shelly in 2014 as well as a Master of Music in Opera Performance with Dr. Pina Mozzani in 2016.  She accompanied for WSU’s choirs, was a Concerto/Aria Competition Finalist, and played keyboard and flute for numerous shows with several companies.  In 2018, she earned an Artist Diploma in Voice at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While at UIUC, she was a Graduate Teaching Assistant, earned a Graduate Teaching Certificate, and was rated ‘excellent’ by her students. Alexis also performed as the alto soloist for the Baroque Artists of Champaign-Urbana’s Gala Recital featuring Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass.

Most recently, she has performed with the Symphony of the Hills as the alto soloist in their 2022 production of Handel’s Messiah, freelanced as an accompanist/vocal coach at Texas State University and the surrounding area, and worked with Playhouse 2000 as Music Director for “Into the Woods”, “Frozen Jr.” and “Fiddler on the Roof”.  She was teaching adjunct woodwind and voice lessons for SU before her promotion to Choral Coordinator.  Alexis currently performs as second flute/piccolo player with the Symphony of the Hills and is the pianist for First United Methodist Church in Kerrville, Texas.
Some of Alexis’s favorite roles have been Prince Orlovsky in Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, Miss Effie Belle Tate in Floyd’s Cold Sassy Tree, and the Witch in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel.  As a skilled accompanist, Alexis has enjoyed performing for multiple stage productions including You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Chicago, The Music Man, and many others.

In her spare time, Alexis enjoys cooking and baking, video gaming, and playing with her adorable pets.
