End of year charitable contributions must be postmarked no later than December 31 in order for you to receive tax credit for that year. Even if your gift is received and processed in January, as long as the post mark indicates December 31, the IRS will allow you to take that deduction in the year that you mailed the gift.

Donating appreciated securities, including stocks or bonds, is an easy and tax-effective way for you to make a gift to Schreiner University.

There are special rules for valuing a gift of stock. The value of a charitable gift of stock is determined by taking the mean between the high and low stock price on the date of the gift. Mutual fund shares are valued using the closing price for the fund on the date of the gift.

Endowments are gifts that keep on giving. The funds are invested, and the earnings generated by the investment are used for the purpose the donor wishes.

Endowments may be established to support student scholarships and programs, faculty and their work, or specific programs that enhance education opportunities for our students.

A portion of the income may be re-invested each year, depending on the endowment’s annual earnings, enabling it to continue to grow and provide a predictable, stable stream of income for Schreiner University over time.

Donors may be recognized by having an endowment named for them, or may name the endowment to honor a family member, favorite professor, classmate, or anyone else they may wish to recognize.

A minimum gift of $25,000 is required to establish any named endowment. Minimum gift levels required to name specific endowments or to have a building, program or project named are listed below:

Student Support

  • Endowed Scholarship $25,000
  • Endowed Undergraduate Research Grant $100,000
  • Endowed Merit Scholarship $200,000

Faculty Support

  • Endowed Chair $1,500,000

To name a university entity or program, funds sufficient to endow 50 percent of the annual budget for that entity or program must be donated.

Honorific naming will be considered for a person who has made an extraordinary contribution to Schreiner, but only by a 2/3 vote of the Board of Trustees.

Schreiner appreciates gifts made as tributes or as memorial recognition. In most instances these gifts support general scholarships—always Schreiner’s greatest need. However we also welcome gifts for other purposes: an academic or co-curricular program, the library, campus ministry, buildings and grounds, general endowment, etc.

The families of those being remembered receive a tasteful card that informs them of the gift and its purpose. Donation amounts are not disclosed.
