Schreiner University Appoints Dr. Jared Montoya as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
Schreiner University has appointed Dr. Jared A. Montoya as provost and vice president for academic affairs, effective Aug. 1, 2026.
As Schreiner’s chief academic officer, Montoya will provide leadership for the university’s academic programs, faculty, curriculum and student-learning initiatives. He will also serve on the university’s senior leadership team, helping guide institutional planning and advance Schreiner’s commitment to preparing students for meaningful work and purposeful lives in a changing global society.
Montoya most recently served as Schreiner University’s dean of faculty. Since joining the university, he has worked closely with faculty members and campus leaders to support academic quality, strengthen student success and align academic priorities with Schreiner’s mission and strategic direction.
Dr. Charlie McCormick, Schreiner University’s President, notes that “as the University continues to grow and develop, it requires leadership that meets the moment and moves us towards our next set of milestones. As we develop a national profile for our Center for Achievement and Learning Support (CEALS), maintain our recognition – according to Niche.com – as having the best residence halls in the state, and add new, in-demand programs to our existing portfolio of majors which includes nursing, finance, and engineering among others, we need a steady and ambitious academic leader who can move us forward deliberately and intentionally. Dr. Montoya is just that leader.”
Montoya brings more than two decades of experience in higher education leadership, teaching, academic program development and strategic innovation. Before joining Schreiner, he served as associate provost at Our Lady of the Lake University, where his responsibilities included expanding graduate and online programs, supporting student-success initiatives, developing community and corporate partnerships, and helping secure federal grant funding. He previously served as a faculty member and administrator at the University of Texas at Brownsville.

Montoya holds a Ph.D. in applied social psychology from Brigham Young University. His academic and professional work spans leadership, psychology, education, organizational culture, curriculum development and student success. He is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
As provost, Montoya will lead Schreiner’s continued efforts to strengthen its academic programs, respond to evolving workforce and community needs, support innovative teaching, and provide students with a personalized and purpose-driven educational experience.
