Kerrville, TX – This semester, several Schreiner University students – mostly upper-level – volunteered at the Doyle School Community Center to provide after school mentoring and assistance to at-risk youth through tutoring, organized recreation and camaraderie. This program was part of the Sport Sociology class, and was faculty-led by Dr. Matthew Robinson, Assistant Professor of Exercise Science and Sport Management at Schreiner University.

“Our students enjoyed the experience and I received positive feedback and gratitude from the Doyle School,” stated Robinson. The Schreiner students volunteered at the Doyle School Community Center after-school program assisting elementary and middle school students from the community. Each student served 12 hours, alternating days Mon – Thurs, for the entire spring semester. This ensured everyday was covered.

“Such dedication is so precious to the children and they are spoiled by often having one-on-one tutoring,” said Jody McCulley, Coordinator of Doyle School Community Center after-school program. “The added plus is playing basketball, soccer, and indoor games at the end of the day. Lessons in teamwork and fair play are being learned in both home work and playtime.”

The Doyle School Community Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, organized in the state of Texas. The Center is completely funded by contributions from individuals, businesses, and other sources.

The vision of the Doyle School Community Center is to provide opportunities for growth, personal improvement, community development, and education for all of Kerrville, while focusing on the low-income neighborhood around the Center.
