Schreiner University Appoints Dr. Matt Goodwyn as Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students

KERRVILLE, TX — Schreiner University proudly announces the appointment of Dr. Matt Goodwyn ’02 as the new Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, effective immediately. A dedicated alumnus and long-time member of the Mountaineer community, Dr. Goodwyn brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and a heartfelt commitment to enhancing student life.

Dr. Goodwyn has served Schreiner in multiple roles since 2005, including Director of Campus Recreation, Dean of First-Year Experience, and most recently, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs. Throughout his tenure, he has played a pivotal role in shaping a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive student environment.

In his new role, Dr. Goodwyn will lead several key departments: Athletics, Schreiner Institute, Campus Recreation, Club Sports, University Ministry, Residence Life, Student Activities, Counseling, and the Student Government Association. He will also serve as Schreiner’s Title IX Coordinator, underscoring his commitment to student safety and wellbeing.

As Schreiner enters its second century and moves forward with the Schreiner 2030 Strategic Plan, Dr. Goodwyn’s leadership will be instrumental in advancing the University’s goals of retention, student engagement, and holistic development.

“I am deeply honored to step into this new role,” said Dr. Goodwyn. “Schreiner is a special place, and it is a privilege to continue to serve the university that helped to shape so much of who I am today. I am excited to work alongside our dedicated students, staff, and faculty to continue building a campus environment rooted in hope, achievement, and belief. I look forward to the journey ahead and to all we will accomplish together.”

Dr. Charlie McCormick, President of Schreiner University, reflected on the significance of Dr. Goodwyn’s appointment:
“What a rare opportunity it is to be able to experience the way in which an institution can grow you as a young man and then to grow that same institution to new levels given your own professional experience and expertise. Dr. Goodwyn is having just this opportunity, and I look forward to helping him guide Schreiner into the newest and best version of itself. Given the length and depth of his interactions with Schreiner, he may know this place better than any of us, and I am delighted and honored that of any place he could choose to work and leverage his talent—he chose here.”

A 2002 graduate of Schreiner University, Dr. Goodwyn earned his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science before completing a Master’s in Kinesiology with a focus in sport psychology from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, and a Doctorate in Psychology with an emphasis in mediation and conflict resolution from the University of the Rockies. He is also an experienced adjunct faculty member in psychology, exercise science, and freshman studies.

Dr. Goodwyn and his wife Becky, a proud Schreiner alumna from the Class of 2003, have been married for 22 years and are the proud parents of two daughters, Matilyn and Carli.

Schreiner University is excited to welcome Dr. Goodwyn into this new leadership role as the institution continues to foster transformative learning, expand student opportunities, and strengthen its identity as the Texas Hill Country’s university.
