Schreiner University and City of Kerrville Celebrate Unveiling of Collaborative Public Art Installation

KERRVILLE, TX — October 10, 2025 — Schreiner University and the City of Kerrville recently came together to celebrate the unveiling of a new public art installation by visiting artist Tim Mispagel, marking the successful conclusion of a dynamic week of artistic collaboration between the artist, Schreiner students, and the broader community.

The installation, part of the Summerlin Visiting Artist Program, symbolizes the shared commitment of Schreiner University and the City of Kerrville to enhancing the region’s cultural identity through creative placemaking and educational engagement.

The celebration, held on October 6, featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a public presentation, “Creative Placemaking and Public Art.” Artist Tim Mispagel was joined by Katherine Boyette, Community Arts Program Director, and Clay McClure, Associate Professor of Graphic Design at Schreiner University, for a powerful discussion on the transformative role public art plays in building community identity, inspiring civic pride, and strengthening local connection.

Schreiner University President Dr. Charlie McCormick reflected on the lasting impact of the collaboration:

“Being in the presence of art is always significant. For this community, this beautiful piece of art will help move our lives forward. All of us at Schreiner are honored to play a part in this public art project for the Hill Country.”

Artist Tim Mispagel also shared his appreciation for the meaningful collaboration:

“This public art collaboration between the City of Kerrville and Schreiner University has been one of the most impactful projects I’ve had the privilege of participating in… I’m honored to have been selected as the artist to bring the team’s public art vision to fruition. Most importantly, I’m thankful that my placemaking concept resonated with the community and will be visited and appreciated by generations to come.”

The new installation joins a growing collection of public art at Schreiner University, underscoring its identity as the Texas Hill Country’s university—a place where creativity, learning, and community come together in vibrant and meaningful ways.
