Schreiner Men’s Golf team takes 10th in National tourney
The Schreiner University Men’s Golf team finished in 10th place in the 2024 NCAA Division III National Championship, held May 14-17 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
The team shot a four-round total of +8 (1160), to place 10th out of 43 competing teams. A total of 221 golfers representing 34 conferences qualified for the championships.
“It was a solid team effort,” said Bill Raleigh, Director of Athletics. “The highlight for the Mountaineers was the second round where Schreiner posted the low round of the day of -8 (280) to make the cut and put themselves in the top 10 for the tournament.”
The Mountaineers were led by grad student Drew Hermesmeyer, who tied for 11th place overall with a -4 score of 284 for the tournament. Other team members and their scores were Matthew McKenzie (Jr) 294- T54, John Martinez (Sr) 296 -T65, Colin Perez (So) 297- T69, and Jake Sitterle (Gr) 299-T73.
Schreiner University Men’s Golf entered National Championship tournament as the 2024 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Golf team champions and the #16 ranked Division III program in the country. Schreiner University previously brought home a NCAA Men’s Golf National Championship trophy in 2014.
The event was hosted by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
