Middle School Girls Invited to Explore STEM at Schreiner University’s “Expanding Your Horizons” Event

Schreiner University is inviting area 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade girls to participate in “Expanding Your Horizons,” a one-day STEM exploration event happening on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Cailloux Campus Activity Center.

First launched in 1992, the event offers hands-on learning opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math. Participants will code robotic pets, dissect owl pellets, investigate a mock crime scene, and learn the chemistry behind fireworks. Each session is led by professional women in STEM fields and Schreiner students who will share their career journeys and inspire participants to explore their own futures in STEM.

“Expanding Your Horizons is a fun and meaningful event that helps girls see themselves in careers they may not have considered before,” said Dr. Rachel Lynn, Co-Director of the conference. “It’s all about exploration and building confidence.”

Dr. Diana K. Comuzzie, who founded the event over 30 years ago, added, “This day gets girls talking about science and math and helps them imagine new possibilities. That spark can change lives.”

Registration is $25 through November 9 and includes lunch, supplies, and a camp T-shirt for preregistered attendees. Late registration at the door is $35. Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m.

This program supports Schreiner University’s strategic goals of providing transformative learning and serving the Texas Hill Country through purposeful engagement and access to higher education.
