ALUMNI NEWSLETTER WINTER 2025
Letter from the Office of the President
We have much for which to be thankful as this fall semester winds down: historic enrollment and retention rates, another win in women’s flag football (the team remains undefeated!), a winning record (5 – 1) in football, the launch of Schreiner Institute’s Drum and Bugle Corps, ABET accreditation for Engineering, and our volleyball team’s epic season which ended in a five set match against Colorado College in the conference championship final. In this season of Thanksgiving, I encourage us all to remember the many ways in which our individual and collective lives are blessed. And as president of Schreiner, it’s abundantly clear to me that Schreiner’s blessings are overflowing.

Letter from the Office of Alumni Relations
As we give thanks this week, we celebrate the individuals who shaped our lives. Who made the most profound impact on you while at Schreiner?
My husband Kyle will quickly say Dr. Sam Lanham.
Dr. Samuel W. T. Lanham III ’51 was a Schreiner student, faculty member, trustee, and benefactor. He was also a Presbyterian minister, an attorney, a poet, an artist, and an avid cyclist. Dr. Lanham won the Harriet Garrett Award for Teaching Excellence five times, as voted on by students. Anybody remember taking Japanese Bookbinding during winter term? Or admiring the church bell ropes he hand-knotted? I could go on and on, but many of us will remember him as the perfect blend of wisdom, toughness, and love.

GIVING WEEK IS EXTENDED THROUGH THANKSGIVING!!
Thank you to everyone for supporting Schreiner students during Giving Week, including the challenge gifts we received from Estela Avery, Karl Ransleben ’60, and Rick Cree ‘67. If you have not yet made your gift, here’s the LINK to give during the Extended Giving Week, supporting the Hill Country College Fund: https://schreiner.edu/giving/givingweek/
Giving Week is intended to help build meaningful, lifelong relationships with our Schreiner alumni. ANY AMOUNT you can give is amazing. We’d love for you to be part of the wonderful things happening at Schreiner right now. We want GIVING to feel personal, easy, and impactful so at the end of the day, you know you made a difference. If you have any questions, please message, call, email, or let’s grab coffee sometime!
So grateful for your generosity,
Lea Nye ’92, Schreiner Alumni Relations
mmnye@schreiner.edu
p.s. Next time you eat at Billy Gene’s, Jersey Mike’s (Kerrville & Fredericksburg), or East End Pizza Co. let them know you are a Schreiner alum, and that you appreciate their support for your alma mater. All these local restaurants participated in Giving Week by giving back 5% of sales to Schreiner. Wow!

HOMECOMING NEWS
Join us October 3–4 as we celebrate Schreiner University’s first Homecoming Weekend with Schreiner Football on the field. This milestone weekend brings students, alumni, families, and the entire Kerrville community together to cheer on the Mountaineers as they face Hendrix. Make plans to be part of the excitement, the traditions, and the start of something special in Schreiner athletics.

Distinguished Lecture Series
The Distinguished Lecture Series at Schreiner University brings thought leaders, visionaries, and changemakers to the Hill Country to engage our campus and community in meaningful dialogue. These events explore critical issues, spark new perspectives, and reflect Schreiner’s commitment to academic inquiry, civic engagement, and the pursuit of purpose. Each lecture is an invitation to think deeply, ask boldly, and leave inspired to lead.
Join Schreiner Alliance
The 2025–2026 Schreiner Alliance season is well underway, bringing alumni and Hill Country community members together for meaningful conversations and on-campus experiences. This year’s lineup features “Lunch and Learn” events led by faculty and campus partners on topics ranging from rural workforce development to the future of Texas agriculture, music, and student success. Alliance members also look forward to a spring social to close out the season. Annual memberships are $150 for individuals and $250 for couples. Cornerstone Campaign for Schreiner’s Second Century Update
With six months to go, we have surpassed $34 million and 74 new endowments have been created. On June 1, 2021, we began a 5-year campaign to “set a rock-solid cornerstone for our second century. Our commitment is to our students, and as such, our priority for this campaign (is) for student scholarships and programs that support student success.” Most of the endowments created are for student scholarships. Two endowments have been established to support our new football program. And over $5 million has been raised and 23 new endowments created to support Schreiner Institute Military Programs and the Texas Center at Schreiner University.
The campaign goals remain paramount to our efforts:
1. New Endowments make a Schreiner education affordable.
2. New Endowments enrich innovative and life-changing experiences for our students.
3. New Endowments help us recruit and retain the best teachers.
4. New Endowments enhance pioneering programs that are unique to Schreiner.
We have a short time to raise the last funds for this campaign. We have a path to success, but we still need your help. If you would like to learn more about how you can help, or if you want to make a donation that supports any of the four goals above, please reach out to our Assistant Director of Development: Alumni Relations, Lea Nye at 830-792-7206 or mmnye@Schreiner.edu or Vice President of Advancement Mark Tuschak at 830-792-7215 or mctuschak@schreiner.edu.
