Alamo Colleges, Schreiner University Announce Promise-to-Promise Partnership

(SAN ANTONIO, Texas) – Tuesday, January 27, 2026– The Alamo Colleges District and Schreiner University today announced an expanded transfer agreement that will allow eligible students to begin at any of the five Alamo Colleges and seamlessly transfer to Schreiner University to complete a four-year degree, with educational costs covered at both institutions. As part of this agreement, Schreiner becomes the first private institution within the South Central Texas Transfer Compact to partner with the Alamo Colleges through a Promise-to-Promise pathway.
AlamoPROMISE is a scholarship for graduating high school seniors in Bexar County to attend one of the Alamo Colleges tuition-free. The Schreiner University Promise Program allows eligible students to receive last-dollar tuition coverage for up to four consecutive fall and spring semesters.
“Schreiner University joining our Promise-to-Promise pathways is a powerful step forward and significant as the first private institution in the South Central Texas Transfer Compact to make this commitment,” said Dr. Mike Flores, Alamo Colleges District Chancellor. “With Schreiner University now alongside UT San Antonio and Texas A&M–San Antonio, we are expanding regional momentum around our moonshot. These partnerships make earning a degree more attainable and more achievable for our students.”
Alamo Colleges transfer student Danielle Chavarria will be among the first eligible students admitted to Schreiner University under the newest Promise-to-Promise program. She recently graduated from St. Philip’s College with an Associate of Science. Her future plans include becoming a registered nurse through Schreiner University.
“When I found out I would be able to attend Schreiner tuition-free – to attend a private university – without the burden of debt I was in shock. It felt like such a relief. Such a blessing. Truly, it felt like my prayers were being answered. I’m so grateful for the Alamo Colleges District and for programs like AlamoPROMISE. I don’t think people always realize just how powerful these programs are,” said Chavarria.
“From its founding, Schreiner University has believed in educating the whole person and preparing students for meaningful work and purposeful lives,” said Charlie McCormick, President of Schreiner University. “We also know that no single educational pathway fits every student. By partnering with Alamo Colleges, we are opening new doors for students across South Central Texas and the Hill Country, including those who may begin their journey elsewhere and discover that a small, residential university in Kerrville is the right next step. This partnership honors our shared commitment to access, affordability, and opportunity, and to walking alongside students as they continue their educational journey.”
About 75% of Alamo Colleges students transfer to four-year universities to complete their degrees.
The new Promise-to-Promise partnership strengthens the collaborative student support system across the partnering institutions. This partnership is the third such partnership for the Alamo Colleges. In 2022, the Alamo Colleges established a partnership with UT San Antonio’s Bold Promise Program. In 2024, the Alamo Colleges established a Promise-to-Promise partnership with Texas A&M-University-San Antonio.
