How soon will I know if I am admitted?

A Schreiner Institute student should expect to hear back from the admission committee within a week of submitting all documentations. Decisions are made starting in the spring semester.

What type of aid can I qualify for?

Because Schreiner Institute is a one year program and students will not be pursuing a degree, students are not eligible for federal student aid (FAFSA) or VA benefits according to the federal government. However, students automatically receive $9,000 in scholarships from Schreiner University and academy sponsored students also receive an additional $500. Academy sponsorship must be pursued and obtained by the student and their family.

I think I have veteran’s education benefits. How can I find out?

The first step to determine your eligibility is to apply for benefits through the VA website: www.gibill.va.gov. If you are the veteran, you can research your best options, and apply at www.gibille.va.gov. If you are a dependent, your parent will need to apply and list you as a recipient of their benefits. As the beneficiary, you will then have to apply for the educational benefit after your parent has listed you as a beneficiary.

What’s a Certificate of Eligibility and why does my VA counselor want to see it?

Once your application has been submitted and reviewed by the VA, they will mail you a Certificate of Eligibility. You must provide a copy of this letter to your school. It lists your file number, chapter, length and percentage of benefits. This is important information used to determine your financial aid and VA benefits at your institution.

Are you a Yellow Ribbon school? How does it work?

Yes, Schreiner University is a Yellow Ribbon school. We have committed to providing more than $4,000 in scholarship funds to any students who are eligible to receive Yellow Ribbon Benefits.

I qualify for Hazelwood. Will this be accepted?

Because Schreiner University is a private institution, Hazlewood is not offered. We accept the GI Bill and Post 9/11 benefits. When receiving benefits, other tuition specific scholarships, such as merit aid, are not applicable.

What other Veteran scholarships are available?
What’s a degree plan and why do I need one?

You may complete your first semester without submitting a degree plan. However, to receive VA benefits past the first term, you must have a signed degree plan on file with the VA coordinator and the registrar. This degree plan outlines what courses are eligible for VA funding. Courses not on your degree plan will not be certified.

How do I get my military transcripts? Why do you need them?

All veterans utilizing VA educational benefits are required to submit military transcripts. These transcripts are evaluated for potential college credit which will save you time and money.
