Schreiner University Football Team Receives Community Blessing at First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville

KERRVILLE, TX – September 3, 2025 – In a heartfelt gathering that underscored Schreiner University’s commitment to holistic student development and community partnership, over 100 members of the Schreiner University football team, along with their coaching staff, were welcomed and blessed during Sunday worship at First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville.

The service was led by Rev. Dr. Dongwoo Lee, University Minister at Schreiner, who preached on Luke 13:10–17, focusing on Jesus’ healing of a bent-over woman. Dr. Lee’s message of collective liberation and community transformation served as a powerful parallel to the journey of the Schreiner football team as they prepare for the upcoming season.

The congregation joined in extending a communal blessing over the athletes, praying for courage, unity, and perseverance on and off the field. Special recognition was given to Head Coach Keith Allen and his staff for shaping young men not only into athletes but into leaders of integrity and character—a mission that echoes Schreiner’s enduring legacy of educating the whole person.

This service at First Presbyterian Church was part of a three-week community church partnership celebrating and supporting the Mountaineers:

  • August 17 – Calvary Temple Church
  • August 24 – First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville
  • August 31 – Kerrville Church of Christ

These blessings reflect the expanding connection between Schreiner University and the faith community throughout the Texas Hill Country—an effort that reinforces the university’s identity as Texas Hill Country’s University.

The worship service is available for viewing on the First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville’s YouTube channel and via the Worship Online tab on their website.
