Wilke to give Schreiner commencement address

The Honorable Lucy Ortiz Wilke will be the speaker for Schreiner University commencement beginning at 7 pm on Friday, May 3, on the front lawn of the Cailloux Campus Activity Center (CCAC). The public is invited as 187 graduates receive their diplomas.

Wilke is a 1993 graduate of Schreiner University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. She earned her Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree with a concentration in Criminal Law from Baylor University School of Law in 1996.

Wilke began her career as a felony prosecutor in January of 1997 in the District Attorney’s Office for the 216th Judicial District as Assistant District Attorney, which encompasses Kerr and Gillespie counties. She currently serves as District Attorney.

In addition to successfully prosecuting thousands of felony cases, Wilke has handled several appeals before the State of Texas Court of Appeals and the State of Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. She was twice appointed by The State of Texas Governor Rick Perry to State Boards for the State of Texas.

Wilke was raised in the Texas Hill Country and attended Bandera and Comfort public schools for her primary and secondary levels. She is married to Kenneth Wilke, a retired peace officer.
