Dr. Rachel Lynn, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Schreiner University in Kerrville, TX. She is also the faculty sponsor of the Kappa Mu Epsilon mathematics honors society and serves on several committees, including Schreiner’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Awareness (I.D.E.A.) Committee, Teacher Education Committee, and Quality Enhancement Plan Committee.
Originally from the Houston area, Dr. Lynn spent most of her life in the Midwest. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Actuarial Science from Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois. During her time there, she engaged in valuable experiences, such as participating in a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU), interning as a property and casualty actuary at AON in Chicago, passing two actuarial exams, and completing an honors program research capstone project using predator-prey models to predict corporate behavior. These opportunities were possible because of the small, liberal-arts college she attended.
Following her undergraduate studies, Dr. Lynn earned her PhD in Mathematics from Purdue University in Indiana. Throughout her graduate school journey, she received an Excellence in Teaching Award and secured four Purdue research grants—three summer research grants and one academic-year research grant.
After obtaining her PhD, Dr. Lynn immediately moved to the Hill Country to work at Schreiner University. She loves working at Schreiner because she can build meaningful connections with students from their first year through graduation. These connections extend beyond the classroom through Kappa Mu Epsilon events and undergraduate research. Dr. Lynn is particularly interested in research in commutative algebra, combinatorics, number theory, and mathematics education.
Dr. Lynn lives in Boerne, TX, with her husband, Mark, their son, and their two cats. During her free time, she enjoys reading, hiking, board games (especially cooperative ones), and playing the flute.
