Schreiner Vocational Nursing program graduates 10 on 50th anniversary

Schreiner University’s Division of Nursing added 10 Vocational Nursing graduates on Dec 8 to bring its alumni total to 847 over the past 50 years, according to Shanna Chapman, Director.

“I am excited to take our Vocational Nursing program to next level,” said Chapman, who came on as director in August. “We are currently undergoing a whole revision to update our curriculum and program to ensure our graduates are successful with all the new technology.”

Upgrades include adding high-fidelity patient simulator manikins that simulate programmable health conditions and allow nursing students to practice in realistic patient and treatment scenarios.

Schreiner University offers the one-year certification program for Vocational Nursing, a traditional four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, and an online RN to BSN program. The new Master of Science in Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner track will open March, 2024. This summer, the university will add a camp for high school students interested in nursing.

Last year the school’s traditional BSN program was ranked #2 in the state of Texas, and this year the online BSN program was ranked #3.

“My goal is to provide high quality education to reach those same benchmarks with our Vocational Nursing program,” Chapman said.
