Schreiner University Field Station
The Schreiner University Field Station is the ideal facility for outdoor education and research at the Hill Country’s University. From cacti to ferns and deer to frogs, we’re home to incredible biodiversity and habitat diversity in a compact space. While many field stations require travel to access, the Schreiner University Field Station is immediately adjacent to campus.
Since 2013, we have offered over 30 acres of upland Texas Hill Country terrain and another 30+ acres of Guadalupe River floodplain for research, teaching, and discovery.

Amenities Included
While recent projects have focused on flood recovery, invasive species, and ecotoxicology, we welcome research from students and from visiting scholars.
We have ongoing community partnerships with Riverside Nature Center, Kerrville Hills Winery, and City of Kerrville Parks and Recreation Department.

Chris Distel, Ph.D (Director)
Research: We live in a human-modified world full of incredible biodiversity. My studies assess how human pressures like toxins and invasive organisms affect native species in their home environments. I love herpetology and aquatic ecology, but work with students on a wide variety of species groups.

Rebecca Keim, Ph.D
Research: I study native-invasive species interactions, primarily by focusing on native harvester ant interactions with invasive plant species. I seek to determine whether the ants play a role in invasive species dispersal, and whether the invasive plant species have a negative or positive effect on these important ecosystem engineers.
