Schreiner University Continues Commitment to Women’s Sports with Addition of Women’s Flag Football, Beach Volleyball and Swimming

KERRVILLE, TX – November 14, 2025 – Schreiner University is proud to announce the launch of three new women’s athletic programs:
Women’s Flag Football, Women’s Beach Volleyball, and Women’s Swimming. This expansion underscores the University’s strategic commitment to growing athletics equitably while enhancing student experiences both on and off the field.
This development follows the highly anticipated launch of Schreiner Football and further positions the Mountaineers as leaders in NCAA Division III innovation.
“What an exciting time for Schreiner University,” said Bill Raleigh, Athletic Director. “On the heels of launching football, we are establishing three new sports for women. Women’s Flag Football, Beach Volleyball and Swimming. Beach Volleyball and Flag Football are two newer sports for women at the NCAA level. The significance of these additions is that it shows Schreiner’s commitment to growing athletics equitably as it flourishes at the NCAA Division III level.”
Women’s Flag Football is a rapidly growing sport nationwide. Schreiner will join other institutions in the American Southwest Conference (ASC) in offering this sport, allowing student-athletes to compete for conference and national titles. The NFL’s support of Women’s Flag Football and its debut as an Olympic sport in 2028 add momentum and visibility to this opportunity. Schreiner will also be the fifth school in the ASC to offer women’s beach volleyball, bringing about a plethora of new competitive opportunities to student-athletes.
The swimming team will train and compete at the City of Kerrville’s Olympic outdoor pool, strengthening an already robust partnership between Schreiner and the local community.
“The growth of Beach Volleyball and Flag Football the last few years and their growing popularity at the high school and youth levels will ensure the recruiting pipelines as these sports come on board,” Raleigh added. “Women’s Swimming is an established NCAA sport and our unique partnership with the city of Kerrville and the Olympic pool will make it a success.”
All three sports are expected to begin competition by Fall 2026. The search for head coaches is currently underway, with announcements expected soon.
“We are excited to continue providing student-athletes with opportunities to compete at the collegiate level,” said Dr. Goodwyn, VP of Student Affairs and Dean of Students.
“Offering these sports demonstrates Schreiner University’s commitment to exploring new ways for student-athletes to continue competing in their sport or to discover a new athletic experience. Athletics are an integral part of the holistic education students receive at Schreiner, and introducing these sports further enhances that experience.”
