Kerrville, TX – The San Antonio Certified Public Accountant Society (SACPAS) recently announced the recipients of their annual SACPAS scholarships. There were six academic scholarships available for the 2019-2020 academic year. Accounting students from Schreiner University received three out of the six available scholarships.

“Schreiner students received three of the six scholarships that we awarded for 2019-2020!” announced Amanda Talaat, Assistant Executive Director for SACPAS. “The scholarship review panel met this morning and selected Callie Gargano, Ross Newstead and Amanda Timmerman, among the total of six.”

Gargano and Newstead are both seniors and accounting majors at Schreiner University. Timmerman is a junior accounting major. On Apr 15, Newstead was also recognized by the SACPAS as Schreiner University’s Outstanding Accounting Student for 2019.

“Our students were selected based on the quality of their essays,” explained Barbara von Brandt-Siemers, instructor of accounting at Schreiner. “I am thrilled that our students received half of the available scholarships.”

Applications were accepted beginning Jan 1, 2019 through Apr 1, 2019, for the six academic scholarships available through the SACPAS – valued at $1,500 to $2,500.

Students must be accounting majors attending one of the nine universities in the SACPAS Chapter’s geographic service area: Schreiner University, Our Lady of the Lake University, St. Mary’s University, Texas A&M International University, Texas A&M University – San Antonio, Texas Lutheran University,
Trinity University, University of the Incarnate Word and University of Texas at San Antonio. Students must also be members in good standing of the Texas Society of CPAs and the San Antonio CPA Society for the 2019-2020 fiscal year.
