Two Schreiner Students Awarded ICUT Scholarships
The Council of Independent Colleges has announced that two Schreiner University students have received Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas (ICUT) Foundation Scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year.
Leslie Aguilar, a Senior from El Paso majoring in Biology, received $2180 from the PACCAR Foundation, a private foundation that directs grants to universities and other organizations.
Manuel Coya, a Junior from Round Rock majoring in Marketing, received $3200, given in the name of the UPS Foundation Scholarship Program, part of the UPS Educational Endowment.
Schreiner University was founded in 1923 and is a diverse, fiercely independent university with a 1,200-student campus in Kerrville Texas. At Schreiner University, students enter with hope and leave with achievement.
These awards were arranged through the Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas (ICUT) Foundation, which supports Texas independent nonprofit colleges and universities by strengthening member institutions through advocacy, policy research and collaboration.
Each year since 1985, Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas (ICUT) Foundation members have received funds from the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC)’s State Funds Endowment. Over the years, more than $50 million has been awarded in scholarship grants to State Fund Members for the benefit of more than 18,000 students at independent colleges across the country.
In 2020-21, 97% went to recipients with financial need, 92% were members of minority populations, and 71% were first generation students.
