Schreiner Institute named an approved West Point AOG Preparatory School

One of only 6 in US

Schreiner Institute fires cannonKerrville TX–The Schreiner Institute Military Academy Preparatory School has been designated an approved Civil Preparatory school by the United States Military Academy at West Point Association of Graduates Scholarship Program, one of only six such programs in the United States.

“This gives us a national platform that raises awareness for Schreiner University,” said Shannon Deville, Director. “It lets students know that we offer an academic program that meets the standards for one of our nation’s military service academies.”

Those standards include a two-semester, 37-hour STEM-focused curriculum designed to prepare cadet candidates for the academics, core values, and physical demands expected for students at the U.S. Service Academies.

Dr. Travis Frampton, Schreiner University Provost and VP of Academic Affair, is grateful that Schreiner University and United States Military Academy are able to partner in order to serve students interested in attending West Point.

“The military instruction, academic preparation, and individual support civil-prep students receive at Schreiner were determining factors in making our partnership with West Point a success,” Frampton said. “The mentoring our staff at Schreiner Institute will provide and the quality of the education students will receive from our faculty in the classroom will prepare civil-prep students for the next step becoming a cadet at West Point.”

In addition to being one of only six such programs in the U.S., the Schreiner Institute is the only one in Texas, which forms the largest pool of candidates going into West Point each year.

“For many students in the central United States, this will become the primary option,” Deville said of students seeking admission to a service academy. “This will be a huge opportunity for the university, as the students referred to us will be hand selected by West Points Admissions office and are among their most qualified applicants.”

Deville, a US Marine Corps veteran who has served as Director since 2020, noted the goal of achieving the designation was a seven-year plan, which they achieved in only four years.

Schreiner University began as a military institute in 1923, and has maintained a military connection since that time. Today, Schreiner Institute is a program designed to provide comprehensive support and programming for students working to receive a military academy appointment, those who wish to pursue a commission through ROTC, as well as active-duty military and veterans transitioning back into civilian life.

Earlier this year Schreiner Institute student Samuel Kisiel received an appointment for early admission to West Point, continuing that tradition.

The Schreiner Institute is now enrolling students for the fall semester. To learn more about Schreiner Institute, visit schreiner.edu/schreiner-institute/maps/ or call 830-792-7452.
