Schreiner announces new online MSN degree for Family Nurse Practitioners
With the approval today by the Texas Board of Nursing, Schreiner University has announced the establishment of a Master of Science in Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner program (MSN). Classes will begin March 2024.
According to Shanna Chapman, Director of Nursing Programs at Schreiner, the new MSN degree will build upon the University’s strength and expertise in online baccalaureate and master graduate degrees. It is part of a growing nursing program at Schreiner that includes a one-year Vocational Nursing certification, an online RN to BSN program, and a traditional four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
“This new program expands our ability to offer graduate students personalized, integrated, and holistic educational experience that will prepare advanced practice registered nurses to take the American Association of Nurse Practitioners or American Nurses Credential Center national board certification examination,” Chapman said. “Once these nurses pass their board certifications, they will be in the position to help increase access to care and improve health care outcomes of people living in the Hill Country.”
The program was designed with adult registered nurse learners in mind and is geared for the working adult, Chapman noted.
The new graduate program is a good fit for Schreiner University, as the only institution of higher education whose home campus is in the Hill Country, said Dr. Charlie McCormick, President.
“Schreiner University is committed to serving as an educational hub for all the residents of the Hill Country,” McCormick said. “This new graduate program in nursing helps us fulfill this commitment. At the same time, we are committed to developing healthcare personnel of all sorts in support of healthier living in Kerr County and well beyond. The MSN program is one more tool to elevate hope and health in the Hill Country.”
