Kerrville, TX – Grammy Award-winning Max Baca y los Texmaniacs return to the Lion’s Den in the Floyd and Kathleen Cailloux Campus Activity Center at Schreiner University on Wednesday, Sept. 4, to start the 2019-20 Texas Music Coffeehouse series. The concert starts at 7 p.m. and is free to the public.

One of premier conjunto bands around, Los Texmaniacs features veteran bajo sexto player Max Baca. Their album “Borders y Bailes,” won the 2010 Grammy Award for Best Tejano Album.

Baca, the son and grandson of accordion players, was born and raised in Albuquerque, N.M, and learned to play the accordion at age five. While playing in a band he formed, Flaco Jiménez invited Baca to play 12-string bajo sexto in his band, the Texas Tornados. Eventually wanting his own band that incorporated elements of rock and roll and jazz, while honoring the roots of conjunto Tejano, Baca created Los Texmaniacs in 1997.

In addition to receiving the 2010 Grammy, the band is a two-time Smithsonian Folklife Festival participant, performing on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., in 2008 again in 2009. The Texas Music Coffeehouse series is sponsored by the Schreiner University Department of English and World Languages.
