SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Success Coaches provide professional coaching for STEM majors, primarily freshmen and sophomores, to aid them in enhancing their goal setting and decision-making skills. Student Success Coaches provide individual and small group coaching. This is a 9-month position working approximately 20 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

An effective Student Success Coach builds trust and positive relationships with their student clients to foster their academic and personal growth. Specifically, coaches will:

  • Ask powerful coaching questions, actively listen to students and facilitate student reflection of their own learning and thought processes as they imagine possible pathways to their goals.
  • Clarify coaching agreements and discuss accountability.
  • Assist the STEM Academic Services Coordinator to support effectiveness of coaching programs and to maintain accurate records.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Assist in the collection and analysis of data for the HSI-STEM grant reports.
  • Flexibility to work various hours weekdays during the hours of 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM.
  • Flexibility to work a 9-month time frame that may include the summer months.
  • Maintain University safety rules.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to Schreiner University programs of study.
  • Coaching Certification (or in process) a plus.
  • Experience preferred in professional coaching.
  • Ability to utilize technology to include, but not limited to, PC-based programs such as tracking software, Microsoft Excel and Word to monitor effectiveness of services and to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to Communicate effectively with all STEMℤONE constituents and the broader Schreiner community.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen with empathy and respect, communicate clearly, and convey courtesy, patience, sincerity and a desire to help.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and faculty, characterized by cooperation, attention to detail, flexibility, reliability, efficiency and personal responsibility.
  • Ability to interact with diverse personalities, thoughts and populations with respect and sensitivity.
  • Must be able to handle confidential information with tact and discretion.
