Assistant Director of Financial Aid
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Director of Financial Aid will assist the Director of Financial Aid with the overall management of the Financial Aid Office; supervise the Financial Aid Counselor and Student Employees; counsel students and their families regarding the financial aid process; determine aid eligibility and awards funding; manage the Federal Family Education Loan Programs; manage the Student Sponsorship and donor matching programs; assist in the development of institutional application and information materials; and provide technical and clerical assistance in administrative matters to support the Director of Financial Aid in carrying out the responsibilities of the department. Also, assist with University recruitment and admission efforts as assigned by Dean of Admission and Financial Aid.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Counsel students and their families regarding financial aid and college financing options
- Prepare financial aid packages
- Process verifications and review of financial aid files
- Coordinate Student Sponsorship and donor matching programs
- Assist in managing special state grant programs
- Supervise the implementation of loan programs, loan certifications and loan disbursements
- Supervise receipt of financial aid applications through U.S. Department of Education software
- Serve as liaison with the Offices of Financial Aid, Admission, Registrar, and the Business Office
- Assist in the preparation of various reports as required by federal, state and other agencies
- Assist in the preparation of financial aid brochures and handouts
- Assist with loan entrance and exit interviews
- Assist with Veteran’s Education Program benefits counseling
- Conduct workshops and presentations on financial aid programs to staff, students, parents and high school counselors
- Maintain knowledge of current federal, state and institutional regulations in regard to financial aid
- Counsel students on undergraduate admission procedures
- Coordinate outside scholarship program
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Other duties as assigned
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Serves to facilitate good communication between employees, clients, and management through interpersonal and professional communication techniques
- Maintain University safety rules
- Maintain knowledge of computer programs as relates to job
- Assist with office planning and problem solving
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills
- Must have the ability to work both individually and in a team environment
- Some overnight travel required
- Some overtime and weekend work required
- Possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of Schreiner University
- Must be able to access the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS)
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION
- A minimum of two years of experience in financial aid desirable
- Experience with Microsoft Office required and PowerFAIDS desirable
