Schreiner Women’s Wrestling had an impressive first year of competition in 2019

Schreiner women wrestlers make the first-ever list

Kerrville, TX – With the addition of Women’s Wrestling into the NCAA recently, the American Women Wrestling (AWW) has released its inaugural NCAA Women’s ranking. The preseason list includes sophomores through seniors. Freshmen are not ranked on this list until they have college-level results.

Schreiner University had five sophomores make the list of top 8in the different weight classes, which consists of thirty-one programs across the country: Alicia Messer (109) –7,Allie Mahoe (116)-6, Serena Cervantes (130)-7, Payton Klotzer (170)-8and Miriam DeLaGarza (191)-7.

Schreiner Women’s Wrestling had an impressive first year of competition in 2019, with five ladies finishing as conference champions –four of which made this year’s ranking list: Messer, Mahoe, Cervantes and Delagarza–qualifying them for last year’s NCWA National Championship.

“This is our inaugural NCAA ranking,” stated on the AWW website. “Last June, the NCAA recommended adding women’s wrestling for emerging sport status, and this year will have their own Invitational. We thought it was time to put together our very first ranking of NCAA schools! There are31 NCAA programs, and many of them are brand new.”
