Why you love Schreiner: At Schreiner we want to see a student’s GRIT. By that I mean in both the traditional definition of the word grit, but also through what GRIT stands for as an acronym: Generosity, Resilience, Involvement, and Tenacity. You are more than just a GPA or test score; you are a human being who has more intrinsic value than just being reduced to those numbers. I want to see how you have grown as an individual, and how you have served your family, friends, church, or community to improve the lives of those around you. Etched into our front gate is the message, “Enter with Hope, Leave with Achievement.” I want to nurture the hope you have to make your life better, and those around you, so that you leave Schreiner University with achievements in hand. So why do I love Schreiner University? Everyone on this campus is committed to meeting you where you are and guiding you to a path of success. Show me your grit, and I’ll show you our swagger.
Bio: As a second generation Mexican American, I grew up in Pflugerville, Texas, at a time when the town was less than 10,000 people. I remember what it was like to grow up in a rural part of Texas that was rapidly growing like the Hill Country is now encountering. For college, I attended the University of Dallas, where I spent the early part of my career working for the school after graduation. Throughout my professional career, I have had the opportunity to work with incoming freshmen, transfers, adult learners, seminarians, and untraditional students to help them attain their goals of higher education. I am bringing my servant leadership to Schreiner University to cultivate and elevate the student life cycle from the point of recruitment to graduation.
