I am a Communication Designer by education and trade. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Texas Tech University in Design Communication, Cum Laude. I also hold a Master of Fine Arts degree from Digital Media Arts College in Special Effects Animation, Magna Cum Laude.
My main area of focus, both professionally and in education, has been in the Communication Design and Advertising fields. I have a varied background working for larger advertising agencies, small boutique firms, in-house marketing and graphics as well as having my own freelance business. These experiences have allowed for a wide range of knowledge and opportunities, which guides my lectures and project assignments. I encourage questions and hope that my students take the initiative and push the boundary of an assignment. My role as a professor is a guide and sounding board for ideas and inspiration. I promote a classroom atmosphere that allows for the possibility of growth and that does not intimidate, but encourages questioning and facilitates dialogue; this is central to my teaching philosophy.
I believe that teaching is much more than a one way presentation of ideas; it is an interactive dialogue, a two way communication that often leads to a transformational learning experience. As an educator, an open and responsible dialogue is a personal objective that is multifold and interconnected, combining characteristics and traits that include openness, knowledge, and passion, to form a foundation for a truly rewarding relationship.
