Pre-Physical Therapy
Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Admissions Pathway
Physical therapy, or physiotherapy, is a healthcare profession focused on evaluating, diagnosing, and treating physical impairments, disabilities, and pain. It uses exercises, manual therapy, education, and modalities like heat, cold, and electrical stimulation. The goal is to enhance mobility, functional ability, and quality of life for individuals with conditions that limit their ability to move and perform daily activities. Physical therapists work in hospitals, clinics, rehab centers, schools, sports facilities, and private practices.
Journey to Physical Therapy

Schreiner University does not offer a DPT degree. However, students can complete their prerequisite coursework for Physical Therapy (PT) school through the completion of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Science (Pre-Professional Track) from Schreiner University. Other degrees are possible as long as the PT school prerequisites are met. Students are encouraged to research the specific requirements of PT schools of interest by visiting their websites for information on admission requirements

Pre-PT students should maintain a comprehensive log of their healthcare experiences and volunteering opportunities throughout their undergraduate studies. This documentation will be invaluable when applying to PT school, as it showcases commitment to the field, hands-on experience, and dedication to serving others.
Pre-PT students traditionally take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) in the spring or summer of their junior year. Students should time their GRE carefully, ensuring they have completed key coursework and prepared thoroughly. Taking the GRE too early can result in poor scores due to inadequate preparation, while taking it too late may delay applications, reducing admission chances.
Applications for PT school are usually submitted in the summer between junior and senior year, around June, through the Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service (PTCAS). PT schools may require supplemental applications for their specific program.
