New Nursing Director Named for Schreiner University

Wanda Sparks, RN, PhD, the new Director of Nursing

Kerrville, TX – Schreiner University is proud to announce the hiring and welcome Wanda Sparks, RN, PhD, as the new Director of Nursing to oversee the nursing program at the university. Sparks will start June 17.

Sparks holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from the University of the Incarnate Word, Master’s Degree in Nursing with a Concentration in Administration from the University of the Incarnate Word and a Bachelor’s in Nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. She is certified in Forensic Nursing and Ambulatory Care Nursing.

Her research has focused on English Language Learners and their challenges during nursing school. Past faculty positions include San Antonio College, Wayland Baptist University and University of Texas Health Science Center. Administrative positions include, Chair for the Department of Nursing at Our Lady of the Lake University. She is the former President of the local chapter of Sigma Theta Tau.

“It is with great pleasure that I welcome Dr. Sparks to our Schreiner community,” said Dr. William Davis, Dean of Faculty at Schreiner University. “Dr. Sparks brings with her a wealth of experience and knowledge in both online and traditional programs and is ready to nurture and grow the Nursing program. I am looking forward to working with her to advance the Schreiner Nursing program to even greater successes.

“In 1998, Sparks was commissioned to the United States Air Force and stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. Attaining the rank of Major in the Air Force, Sparks is a Critical Care Nurse with a background in Emergency Room and Flight Nursing. Deployments include; Operation Iraqi Freedom where over 10,000 injured American and International troops were treated; Disaster Preparedness in ajoint military NATO operation, training over 100 medical personnel in the Medical Management of War Time Disaster, numerous stateside missions and various leadership positions.
