SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides senior level professional support and technical expertise for employee relations issues and other Human Resources functions. Performs activities in various areas of Human Resources. Counsels employees concerning work related problems and maintains records for EEO reporting requirements. Ensures job descriptions are accurate and may assist with the development of University policies. Conducts research and analysis of data on assigned projects. Assists in the formulation of staffing plans and personnel policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Recruiting and Staffing:
    • Facilitates recruiting and staffing efforts for the University including external and internal job postings, advertising, processing applications, resumes, CVs and supplemental material.
    • Phone screen potential candidates as needed. Schedule and manage interviews and assessment testing.
    • Trains search committee members on effective and legal interviewing processes.
    • Responsible for legal aspects of the hiring/background screening process.
    • Supports diversity and inclusion initiatives related to the recruiting function.
    • Assist managers with the development and updating of job descriptions.
    • Partners with hiring managers to understand hiring needs and goals.
    • Develops effective strategies for sourcing and evaluating candidates.
    • Facilitates interviews and hiring discussions with interviewers and hiring managers.
    • Maintains accurate database and documentation on all candidates, searches and other recruiting activities.
    • Oversees the offer process, including generating offers of employment and closing candidates.
    • Ensures all employees have the appropriate visas and/or work permits.
    • Facilitates onboarding and orientation process for new hires.
    • Collaborates with the Provost’s office to ensure staffing objectives are met.
  • Employee Relations:
    • Provides consultation and support to other Human Resource Services team members administering leaves of absence and workers’ compensation claims.
    • Educates and consults leadership on the performance management process.
    • Serves as an employee advocate and objectively investigates employee relations matters.
    • Provides employee relations support for needs such as organizational development, performance management, coaching/counseling and separations.
    •  Maintains strong knowledge of employment law, legislative changes and legal trends as they impact Human Resources and Schreiner University.
    •  Focuses on employee morale and fosters a culture of respect, diversity and clear communication.

COMPLIANCE AND RISK MANAGEMENT

  • Responds to unemployment claims and prepares position statements for EEOC charges.
  • Ensures required training for employees is completed in a timely manner.
  • Administer Transportation Policy as it relates to processing documents, assigning required training and processing MVRs.
  • Ensures I-9 documents are completed for each new hire. Performs periodic audits for compliance and provides support to other HRS team members for proper completion and securing of required documents.
  • Ensures all H-1B Visa requirements are completed timely on behalf of affected employees. Tracks and communicates status to the Director of HR and the Provost.
  • Works closely with the immigration attorney and employee to ensure all processes are completely timely and according to current legal requirements.
  • Administers and maintains learning management systems to ensure appropriate training modules are available as required by law.
  • Ensures all HR documents reflect any new requirements and are compliant with local, state and federal laws.

OTHER

  • Ensures that all data in the Human Resources Database is input, processed, maintained, revised and distributed in a timely, compliant, and accurate manner.
  • Facilitates communication and processing of all tuition remission and tuition exchange requests.
  • Responsible for compiling, updating and storing all office policies and procedures in an HR Operations manual; update as needed.
  • Updates assigned area of HR website and HRS section of Schreiner One as needed.
  • Assists Director of HR with scheduling Work Study students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • 4-5 years in Human Resources with related experience in Employee Relations and Recruiting/Staffing required. Bachelor’s Degree or Degree in Human Resources preferred. Professional certification is a plus.
  • Extensive human resource generalist experience with advanced knowledge of employment law and regulatory agencies or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • High degree of integrity with the ability to handle confidential and sometimes highly sensitive matters in the appropriate manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit for a broad range of positions.
  • Ability to accomplish most tasks independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism.
  • Ability to work with all levels of management.
  • Proficient knowledge SU policies and procedures.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, written and communication skills.
