Reporting to the Vice President for Student Recruitment, External Relations, and Marketing and Communications (VPSEM) and serving on the President’s cabinet, the innovative and strategic Assistant Vice President will provide vision and leadership for all aspects of Schreiner University’s enrollment initiatives. The AVP will lead an admission team of approximately ten professional staff including Admission Counselors, the Educational Partnership Coordinator, Campus Visit Coordinator and Enrollment Funnel Management Specialist.

As a primary emphasis, the Assistant Vice President is responsible for providing a coherent, effective enrollment management program consistent with university goals, and identifying areas and implementing tactics to improve the sophistication of Schreiner’s recruitment efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES and PRIORITIES

The successful candidate for AVP will possess the ability and experience to accomplish the following responsibilities and priorities:

  • Provide vision, leadership, management, and supervision for the Office of Admission; mentor and inspire a professional admissions team and support the growth and development of staff to retain strong individuals.
  • Lead the admissions office and broader community (including academics, student affairs, athletics, and marketing) in developing and implementing a comprehensive strategic enrollment plan that meets enrollment to increase the size and quality of the student body and achieve retention goals while diversifying the enrollment.
  • Build and enhance relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators across the university, especially at the cabinet level, to create and foster a culture of trust and transparency, to expand their understanding of trends in higher education, and to aid in the planning for the future development of the University.
  • Establish goals for inquiries, applications, acceptances, campus visits, interviews, and deposits for recruiting purposes and provide reports to the University leadership on progress toward these goals.
  • Promote efficiency of all enrollment operations through the preparation and management of the admission office department budget.
  • Lead the enrollment team in evaluating, implementing, integrating, and leveraging technology to innovate, increase operational efficiency, and meet the expectations of students and families (JRM and Salesforce TargetX are current systems in use).
  • Foster a culture of excellence in appropriately leveraging data and sharing of information within the Office of Admissions, including best practices in data collection, analysis, and reporting; provide admission data to the Office of Institutional Planning and Financial Services for federal and state reporting purposes as needed.
  • Possess outstanding communication skills, including listening, writing, presentation, and interpersonal relational skills; write correspondence and reports for internal and external communication for Admissions and facilitate clear and transparent communication between students, parents, employees, and management.
  • Represent Schreiner, internally and externally, through participation at local, regional, and national events, programs, and panels; and upon request, report directly to the Board of Trustees, President, and Cabinet, and attend meetings when enrollment management items are on the agenda.
  • Partner closely with the Vice President for Planning and Finance and the Director of Financial Aid and Student Accounts to leverage financial aid and award merit scholarships and ensure a seamless recruitment process of prospective students; enhance the working relationship with the aid office to increase communication and efficiency to meet the needs of students and their families.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to generate and ensure proper and memorable recruitment messaging and content are used in Schreiner University publications, social media, and website; work with the marketing and communications consulting firm to develop relevant marketing strategies and materials and maximize the university website and other social media tools.
  • Provide education and information regarding changing demographics and the highly competitive Texas higher education landscape, lead the campus community in understanding challenges, and provide institutional partners with the guidance and training to collaborate on effective recruitment and engagement activities in a way that is productive, proactive, and valued.
  • Oversee initiatives to enhance diversity among incoming students by building partnerships with organizations and expanding pathways for international and underrepresented populations (ability to communicate in Spanish desirable, but not required).
  • Provide transformative strategic leadership and develop partnerships with school districts, community-based organizations, and other organizations to generate interest that can be capitalized on to aggressively grow the number of revenue-generating students, especially at the graduate level.

Qualifications, Qualities, and Characteristics

The successful candidate for the Assistant Vice President of Enrollment position must have extensive and progressive experience in enrollment leadership roles (direct experience in independent college recruitment and financial aid preferred); eight years of experience with increasing responsibility within a college or university admissions office is required.  A bachelor’s degree is required; and an advanced degree is strongly preferred.  In addition, they should possess:

  • Experience preparing, implementing, and monitoring a budget; ability to strategically and analyze effectively with financial acumen.
  • Management and supervisory experience; ability to maximize the full potential of enrollment team members while building upon strengths and providing professional growth opportunities.
  • Demonstrated experience working with campus constituents on various levels including students, staff, faculty, and parents of current students.
  • Familiarity and ability to learn legal issues related to higher education and enrollment.
  • Knowledge of current technology and commitment to using it to enhance recruitment strategies, yield objectives, forecasting accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, energy, and focus.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, organize, and coordinate diverse units within an organization.
  • Commitment to effective team building and collaboration with other University sectors, as well as the ability to work independently.
  • High degree of integrity with the ability to handle confidential matters appropriately.
  • Willingness to respectfully challenge leadership to consider innovative, researched, and data-driven ideas.
