Course description for SPAN 2307 Spanish for Healthcare Professions
This is an intermediate-level Spanish course designed to help current and aspiring healthcare professionals to improve their abilities to use the Spanish language effectively in contexts of patient interactions in the US and abroad. The focus will include building vocabulary specific to the medical field as well as bolstering students’ ease of overall language use through interactive practice and task-based communicative approaches. The class is designed for intermediate learners who, either through previous study or personal experience, already possess a basic foundation of Spanish on which to build their skills for medical interactions specifically. Where possible and appropriate, the course will also support students’ development of the informed cultural perspectives that should characterize quality patient care for Latinos in the US.
