Music and Conversation – MONTOPOLIS “Music for Enchanted Rock”

7:00 pm in the Junkin Campus Ministry Center

Montopolis is an indie chamber music group from Austin, Texas that performs the works of composer Justin Sherburn. Their music folds country and folk idioms into modern classical arrangements with inventive instrumentation to create “stunning and transcendent” (Austin Chronicle) concerts.

“The Music for Enchanted Rock” multi-media performance features a slideshow of Rip Shaub’s stunning landscape photography, audio recordings of the legends of Enchanted Rock, and the music of Montopolis that Texas Monthly calls “the great long-last collaboration between Ennio Morricone and Phillip Glass that we didn’t know we were missing.”

Under the direction of Mr. Michael Kahl, the Schreiner University Choir concert will feature the multiple choirs and singers on campus.

Camerata is a professional string quartet from San Antonio. They preset chamber music of the highest caliber to many diverse classical music-loving audiences.

Singer-songwriter guitar player RJ Cowdery is motivated by the best things in life: making people think, laugh, cry and feel. Fans tell her it’s uncanny the way her songs seem to take a peek directly into their lives. Much like the Midwestern Ohio landscape she calls home, her songs are stories of middle ground, and her tales are expressions of being in the midst of life.

“Little Shop of Horrors” – presented by Playhouse 2000 and the Music and Theatre Departments of Schreiner University

Little Shop of Horrors is a horror comedy rock musical with music by Allan Menken and lyrics and book by Howard Ashman. The story follows a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh. The musical is based on the low-budget 1960 black comedy film “The Little Shop of Horrors.

Students and faculty from Schreiner will be partnering with Playhouse 2000 to put on this production.

April 7th

Brass Ensemble Concert

6:30 pm in the Junkin Campus Ministry Center

The Schreiner University Brass Ensemble is large chamber ensemble that focuses on the performance of brass centered repertoire covering over 1000 years of music, from the Renaissance to 21st Century. The Brass Ensemble is made up all members of the brass family and students represent several majors across the university.

Music and Conversation – Matt Nakoa

7:00 pm in the Junkin Campus Ministry Center

Matt Nakoa is an award-winning songwriter, singer, and multi-instrumentalist. A modern troubadour, the makes his home on the highways and concert stages of America and appears regularly with folk music icon Tom Rush. The Boston Globe says of Nakoa, “Between his piano chops and heartfelt originals on guitar, he drops jaws.”
