Band Division
University Concert Band is the premiere band ensemble of the University. The concert band presents four concerts each year and performs a variety of standard repertoire as well as newly commissioned work for wind ensemble.
University Pep Band performs at home basketball games and additional spirit events on campus, as well as events out in the community. The pep band is the enthusiastic voice of musical pride that students can rally behind at important Schreiner events.
University Jazz Band gives students a chance to perform a variety of styles, from swing to Latin, funk, and modern fusion compositions while also developing skills in improvisation.
Chamber Ensembles at Schreiner allows students to participate in small ensembles that are coached by various applied instructors such as brass quintet, saxophone quartet, woodwind quintet & brass choir.
Welcome to Roy Martin, new Coordinator of Bands, Schreiner University
Roy Martin is Coordinator of Bands at Schreiner University. Martin served for 16 years as assistant and head band director of numerous award-winning band programs in Texas.
Martin grew up in the Corpus Christi, Texas area, graduating from Gregory-Portland High School, under the award-winning direction of Fred Klaerner. Martin attended Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, studying trombone under Eileen Meyer. While at Del Mar, Martin earned a position in the Texas Community College Band Directors Association All-State Band, performing at the TMEA convention. Martin received his Bachelor of Music degree with instrumental emphasis for The University of Texas at Austin. While at UT- Austin, he studied trombone under Donald Knaub and Nathaniel Brickens, performing with the world-renowned University of Texas Trombone Choir. Martin also completed graduate work and his Texas teacher certification at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi. His bands have been consistent U.I.L. Sweepstakes and First Division winners, and his programs have generated numerous All-State musicians.
Martin is an active marching and concert band judge, currently holding memberships in The Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Texas Music Adjudicators Association. Roy has a 6 year-old daughter Reagan and a 5 year-old son William.
