Brittany Tawater is a clarinetist, conductor, marching arts designer, and educator based in Boerne, TX. She is a graduate of Lamar University, where she received her Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees in Clarinet Performance under Dr. Kim Ellis. Prior to coming to Schreiner, she was an instructor at Tarrant County College, Hardin Simmons University, Silsbee ISD and Abilene ISD. Currently, she is the Band Coordinator at Schreiner University, beginning in Fall 2021.
Ms. Tawater is also actively involved in the marching arts, most recently as the Program Coordinator and Visual Caption Head for Compass Drum and Bugle Corps (Midland, TX), and the choreographer and woodwind instructor for Dust Storm Indoor Winds (Hurst, TX). She was a member of the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps color guard (San Antonio, TX), from 2008-2010. While at Crossmen, her instructors included Mikhail Costner, Lionel Moore, and Mike Sloane.
As a color guard instructor and choreographer, she has worked with groups across Texas, New Mexico and Louisiana, including Little Cypress-Mauriceville HS, Saginaw HS, Chisholm Trail HS, Insignia (IO) (Ft. Worth, TX), and CGT – Ft. Worth (IA). She considers herself a movement basics, visual design and staging specialist.
As a clarinet instructor, Ms. Tawater has taught Applied Clarinet at Hardin Simmons University (Abilene, TX) from 2018- 2020. Her former students include band directors, graduate students, and teachers around the world. As a private teacher, she has taught student woodwind students in Barbers Hill ISD, Nederland ISD, and Little Cypress-Mauriceville ISD. Her students have earned placements in both All-Region and the Texas All-State Bands. Additionally, she was an Adjunct Instructor of Music at Tarrant County College (Hurst, TX) where she taught Applied Clarinet and Music Appreciation from 2020-2021.
Ms. Tawater is an active performer, giving solo recitals, performing in regional orchestras and orchestras for musical theater (flute, piccolo, clarinet and oboe). She aspires to continue a life of performing in many different styles and locations, as well as finishing a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Clarinet Performance.
Her professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association and Percussive Arts Society.
Ms. Tawater resides in Boerne, TX. Her husband, Alex Braud is completing his Master of Music in Percussion Performance at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. In her spare time, she enjoys
traveling, running, swimming, practicing her instruments, drawing, drinking coffee (dark roast cold brew- black. No milk, no sugar), and eating Mediterranean and Thai food.
