Music at the Mansion is a concert series presented by Schreiner University and the Kerrville Folk Festival Foundation.  The idea for the series was developed in a collaboration between leaders of Schreiner University and The Kerrville Folk Festival Foundation, beginning with planning conversations in 2012.  The mutual benefits to the two founding organizations were obvious, and the overarching goals were to expand opportunities for the Kerrville community to experience the original music that is such an important part of the legacy and history of Kerrville and the surrounding Texas Hill Country, and to provide opportunities to support and encourage another generation to join that legacy.  The first concert was held in February 2013 at the historic Charles Schreiner Mansion in downtown Kerrville.  The artists who performed that night were iconic Nashville artist Dana Cooper and the late Montana songwriter and family practice physician Ben Bullington (deceased in November, 2013).  The audience that evening included the late Rod Kennedy (founder of the Kerrville Folk Festival, who was deceased in April, 2014) as well as leaders of Schreiner University and the Kerrville Community.  In 2015, the series was relocated to the Schreiner University campus, and in 2018 moved to the newly constructed Rodman Steele Recital Hall in the Junkin Family Campus Ministry Center.

Much like a symphony or an arts center, Music at the Mansion is supported by its sustaining members, and generous donors and sponsors.   From its inception in 2013, members have been offered a series of five concerts per year, plus a bonus season-kickoff concert each February, where members are encouraged to invite guests who might be interested in becoming sustaining members.  Members are asked to confirm their annual renewals at this February concert. That mechanism, along with the loyalty of our members has led to a membership that has space for only a few fortunate new members each year.  For the remainder of the season, members and sponsors enjoy an intimate concert where a discriminating audience of no more than 125 listeners can experience the music of at least two world-class songwriters, performed as it was originally conceived.  The artists and audience alike enjoy the acoustically superb recital hall, with the adjacent Fellowship Hall providing the space for a first-class reception prior to each show including wine, craft beer, and beautifully prepared hot hors d’oeuvres and cheeses and desserts.  Members are asked to RSVP for each concert to determine whether any space is available for guests.

Since 2013, the generosity and loyalty of our members and sponsors not only pay the operating and capital costs of the concert series, they also fund the Rod Kennedy scholarship — awarded each year to a student interested in studying music at Schreiner University.  In this way, both of the founding goals continue to be achieved.  Subject to very limited availability, individuals interested in attending one concert may purchase an admission for $50.  For additional information, please contact Debbie Scott at Schreiner University.  Her email address is dlscott@schreiner.edu and her phone number is 830-792-7355.
