In honor of Schreiner University’s Centennial, we are recreating the Westminster Encampment experience with a 21st century flair.
In 1906, Westminster Encampment, later known as the Hill Country’s Center for summer camp activities, was established near the banks of the Guadalupe River on the southeastern edge of Kerrville with a focus on family recreation. Over the years the focus shifted to religious education and leadership development. Ultimately, in 1950, the land and its assets were sold to its neighbor, Schreiner Institute.
July 23-26, 2023, we invite you to come stay on campus and participate in a variety of activities and educational sessions. We can assure you; it won’t be as primitive as the first encampment in the early 1900s, but it will deliver opportunity for reflection, learning and cultural appreciation.
Schedule of activities includes: Wellness activities, Myths, Folklore and Legends presented by Schreiner University President Dr. Charlie McCormick, A walk through time and the Schreiner Archives featuring the old Westminster Encampment, Film Noir with Dr. Tim Summerlin and Dr. William Woods, and much more.
