Master of Education with Professional Certification

Just like the greater Schreiner experience, the application process for graduate studies in Education is characterized by personal contact and attention. Application requirements are in place to maximize the likelihood of student success rather than restrict access. For example, the GRE requirement is automatically waived for students with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and may be waived for non-qualifying students following the admissions interview.

Admission Requirements

Master of Education Applicants must:

  • Hold a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Complete a Graduate Admission Application
  • Send official transcripts from the schools granting your undergraduate (and graduate, if applicable) degree(s). Transcripts must include all previous transfer credit.
  • Pay application fee of $25.00
  • Request 3 letters of recommendation using our online reference system
  • Meet all technology requirements for online courses
  • Interview in person or by phone with Dr. Neva Cramer, Director of Education and Graduate Studies in Education, nvcramer@schreiner.edu or 830-792-7266

There are additional admissions requirements for students seeking teacher and principal certifications.

Master of Education with Teacher Certification Applicants must also:

  • Pass the PACT exam in the desired area of certification before acceptance into the program (to be completed after the first semester of MEd coursework)
  • Be pursuing a teacher certificate in the content/specialization areas presently offered at Schreiner University
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale in major/field
  • Complete a Plan for Certification with the director of Graduate Studies

Master of Education with Principal Certification Applicants must also:

  • Hold a valid Texas Teacher Certificate
  • Complete two years of verified teaching experience in an accredited Pre K-12 school (prior to certification)

Applicants for Principal Certification alone must also:

  • Hold a Masters Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Hold a valid Texas Teacher Certificate
  • Provide verification of two years certified teaching experience in an accredited Pre K-12 school

*Out-of-state or out-of-country students - please note that Schreiner University prepares students for Texas certification ONLY. It is your responsibility to determine if the certification can be used out of Texas, or to determine if you can take a certification exam out of Texas.

*For out-of-state students, additional state approval must be gained by Schreiner University in order to admit students into our online programs. This process can take several months and we cannot guarantee that we will receive state approval. Please talk to the Graduate Admissions Office for more information.

(Iowa students seeking Principal Certification - Please note: A student seeking an Iowa educator license is advised that successful completion of this institution’s program does not qualify you for initial educator licensure by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners. A candidate seeking licensure in the State of Iowa must first be licensed/certified as an educator in the state in which preparation was completed. This institution shall assist a candidate in contacting the appropriate licensing board in the state in which the candidate’s preparation was completed. This institution shall assist the candidate in understanding the requirements of the appropriate licensing board prior to the candidate’s completion of this institution’s program.)
