LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- In voting by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committees from around the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), Schreiner University was chosen as the Fall 2016 Sportsmanship Team in three sports (volleyball, women's soccer and men's soccer). The Mountaineers sponsored five sports this past semester.
The SCAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee instituted the award prior to the 2016-17 academic year in an effort to honor the team that best portrays good sportsmanship and fair play from the players and coaches during the season. The fall awards are presented in men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's soccer and volleyball. Schreiner does not sponsor a team in football.
Howard Wallace is the head coach for Schreiner Volleyball, Nick Morrison is the head coach for Schreiner Women's Soccer and Paul Hayes is the head coach for Schreiner Men's Soccer.
Director of Athletics Ron Macosko on the awards: "I am extremely proud of the players and coaches that represent Schreiner University each and every year. Particularly so in our soccer and volleyball programs for being recognized by their peers as demonstrating great sponsorship and class in their on and off the field/court interactions, regardless of outcome. In sports, we know that winning is important but it can't be the be-all and end-all. Conducting yourself with respect for all around you is something that makes the world better and we need more of that. Thank you to Coach Wallace, Coach Morrison and Coach Hayes and to our great players on each of these teams. You make us all proud. Well done!"
