Jullien Gordon, a self-described “recovering workaholic,” will be guest speaker for Schreiner University’s 2017-18 Opening Convocation at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, in the Event Center. The convocation is open to the public.
Gordon, who also spoke at Schreiner’s 2015-16 Opening Convocation, is founding partner of New Higher, a high-performance consultancy for organizations, individuals, and teams that want to increase employee performance, motivation, engagement, and retention.
He has worked with Fortune 500 companies such as Pepsi and PricewaterhouseCoopers, and business schools such as Cornell, Michigan, and the University of Maryland.
“The game of life isn’t just about racing to check off the American Dream List faster than the next person,” says Gordon. “We can experience true happiness if we stay present to the millions of small moments in life just as much as we focus on the few big milestones like graduating, getting a job, getting married, getting a home, having kids, and so on.”
He studied at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, focusing on organizational behavior, high-performance leadership, strategy, and entrepreneurship. He is the author of four books on business, professional, and individual development.
Gordon has been featured on MSNBC, Forbes, TED, and Black Enterprise. Originally from Oakland, CA, Gordon resides in Brooklyn, NY.
The convocation, which marks the start of Schreiner University’s 94th academic year, will begin with the traditional procession of faculty members and the incoming freshman class. It will also feature a welcome and introductory remarks by President Charlie McCormick, who is beginning his first full academic year in that office.
