SU topping out ceremony slated for Friday
Schreiner University will celebrate the last piece of steel being put in place on the Mountaineer Athletic and Event Center with a topping ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 16, at the construction site by the Mountaineer Fitness Center on SU campus.
In construction, topping out is a builder’s rite traditionally held when the last beam (or its equivalent) is placed atop a structure during its erection.
“The project is on schedule to open in late November or early December and will be available to our basketball team to play their conference games next year,” said Schreiner University President, Dr. Tim Summerlin.
Construction started January 6, and the building is being built by Huser Construction of Kerrville. Huser has done a number of projects for Schreiner University, including Faulkner residence hall.
This 35,000 square foot modern arena will offer a large venue for community events, a premier facility to support our NCAA athletic program, and a place where all students can participate in recreation and intramural activities, and commencement ceremonies.
