Former Schreiner Student Donates Hero Cards to University

Former Schreiner student, Marvin Willis, creator of the Hometown Hero Card is donating 2,000 of them for SU students, staff and faculty.

Willis, a 2010 graduate of Schreiner, originated the Hometown Hero Card while a student at Schreiner.

“I would have never had the abilities to do what I have done without the education I received at Schreiner University,” Willis said.

“Schreiner is my hero. Building relationships with the students, faculty and staff of Schreiner and small businesses in Kerrville is my goal. I want the businesses to recognize the contribution that is made by having a university here and the economic impact it has on our city. Each time a Hero Card is shown by someone from Schreiner we are doing just that.”

The Hometown Hero Card is honored at more than 600 locations in the Hill Country and San Antonio. Users receive a savings when the card is presented.

“Schreiner is always seeking ways to improve benefits for our students and employees,” said Mark Tuschak, vice president for advancement and public affairs at Schreiner. “Through a partnership with the Hero Card and the generosity of Marvin Willis we are able to offer an incredible benefit for our students and employees and at the same time encourage them to shop at local businesses.  This is truly a win win situation.”
