Schreiner former students to sponsor shrimp boil, Gary P. Nunn
PosterThe Schreiner University Former Students Association will have its Third Annual Shrimp Boil and Dance, starting at 7 p.m., Saturday, October 29, at the Robbins-Lewis Pavilion on the University campus. Gary P. Nunn, "The Music Ambassador of Texas," will provide the entertainment this year. Admission is $7 for the public. Schreiner former students, current students and their parents, faculty and staff will be admitted by donation. Food and beverages, including wine and beer, will be available for purchase at the event.

Gary P. Nunn is considered a founding father of the 1970s Austin progressive music movement and was named Texas’ music ambassador in 2007 by Governor Rick Perry. His “London Homesick Blues” was the theme song for the PBS concert TV show “Austin City Limits” for almost 30 years.

“We realized years ago that not everyone who wants to revisit Schreiner can come in April for the Recall weekend,” said Paul Camfield, Schreiner’s associate director for alumni relations.

Recall Weekend is Schreiner’s official homecoming event, but Camfield and the SFSA board came up with the fall shrimp boil to give alumni and former students another opportunity to get together at the University.
“This is our third shrimp boil and we are seeing more interest each year,” Camfield said. “There are many alumni who are interested in coming back to Kerrville in the fall. We purposely hold the event on Schreiner’s Parents Weekend because we know our alumni want to meet current students and their parents and share their love for Schreiner. It’s a win-win situation for everyone.”
