Texas Water Symposium March 31 at Schreiner University

The Texas Water Symposium series continues Thursday, March 31 on the Schreiner University campus in the Floyd & Kathleen Cailloux Campus Activity Center.

Water, the environment and natural resources are daunting issues for Texans, especially with a projected doubling in population over the next 50 years. Local stakeholder organizations and programs that encourage land and water stewardship through collaboration, education, and community participation are critical for protection and preservation of water resources and quality for present and future generations.

This session’s focus is:
“River Watch Programs and Activities in the Hill Country:  How Local Communities Take Care of Their Rivers and Water."

The moderator is Andrew Sansom who serves as the executive director of the River Systems Institute at Texas State University. Sansom is one of Texas' leading conservationists. He is a former executive director of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, executive director of the Texas Nature Conservancy, and founder of The Parks and Wildlife Foundation of Texas. For his commitment to the management and protection of natural resources, Sansom received the Chevron Conservation Award, The Chuck Yeager Award from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, The Pugsley Medal from the National Park Foundation, and the Seton Award from the International Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies. He is a distinguished alumnus of Texas Tech University and Austin College.

The panelists for the March session are: Dr. Robert Brischetto who serves as cleanup coordinator for the Medina River Protection Fund; Tyson Broad with the South Llano River Watershed Alliance and Dianne Wassenich executive director of the San Marcos River Foundation.

The symposium is free and open to the public. The hour-long program begins at 7:00 pm, followed by discussion time with Q&A. The events are recorded and aired on Texas Public Radio one week later.

The Texas Water Symposium series is co-sponsored by Schreiner University, Texas Tech University, Texas Public Radio and the Hill Country Alliance.
