Margaret Syers Lecture Thursday at Schreiner University

The Margaret Syers Lecture Series presents "Movie Themes of Shakespeare" with Dr. Deb Burks at 7 p.m. in the Floyd & Kathleen Cailloux Campus Activity Center Ballroom on the Schreiner campus.  It is free and open to the public.

Burks’—an adjunct professor of English at SU—teaching and research have focused on early modern literature and culture, with especial attention to the theatre in Shakespeare's era.

Thursday’s lecture offers a different view of Shakespeare. In addition to her work on literary history, Burks has studied and taught Shakespeare's more recent incarnations on stage and in the cinema, and it is this topic about which she will speak.

Margaret Syers taught English at Tivy High School for many years. As a tribute to her commitment to teaching and to the value and beauty of literature, her family created this lecture series in her memory.

The Margaret Syers Lecture  is sponsored by Schreiner’s Center for Innovative Learning. For more information about this or any other Schreiner University humanities event, contact Martha York at the Center for Innovative Learning, 830-792-7352.
