Schreiner hosts Rembrandt lecture

Dr. Michael Platt will present a lecture on “Rembrandt’s Aristotle Gazing” on Thursday, Jan. 13 at 4 p.m. in the Floyd and Kathleen Cailloux Campus Activity Center River Room, located on the first floor. The event is free and open to the public.

The lecture and slide presentation will address Rembrandt’s famous painting, “Aristotle Contemplating the Bust of Homer” a painting commissioned by a Sicilian nobleman and currently residing in the New York Metropolitan Museum.
Dr. Platt studied at Harvard University, the University of Oxford, and Yale University. He also studied at Dartmouth, the University of Dallas, and abroad, at Heidelberg. He has taught philosophy, theology, political philosophy, statesmanship, American government, Texas government, biomedical ethics, art history and literature.

Dr. Platt is widely published and his article on "The Myth of the Teenager" is the most popular piece ever published in Mary Pride's Practical Home Schooling. He has lectured at more than 200 colleges and universities, in America and Europe.
