NASA Flight Controller to speak at Schreiner

NASANASA flight controller and Schreiner University alumnus Jerry Yencharis will give the Harry Crate lecture at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 24, in the ballroom of the Floyd & Kathleen Cailloux Campus Activity Center on the Schreiner Campus. Yencharis was rendezvous, guidance and procedures officer for the shuttle program and now is visiting vehicle officer.

“I help coordinate and oversee what happens when a manned or unmanned spacecraft approaches the ISS,” Yencharis said. “It’s similar to my previous role, but it involves working with non-NASA organizations, such as the Japanese Space Agency (JAXA).”

The Harry Crate Lecture Series is sponsored by Schreiner’s Center for Innovative Learning. For more information about this or any other Schreiner University humanities event, contact Martha York at the Center for Innovative Learning, 830-792-7352.
