Men's Soccer Team at the Food Bank

Volunteers and families in need recently braved the early morning cold for a first-ever Kerrville food distribution by the San Antonio Food Bank. Schreiner University partnered with the San Antonio Food Bank, the local St. Vincent de Paul Society, Hal Peterson Middle School and local volunteers to give out food to some 200 local families. The food bank sent one of its trucks up to Kerrville loaded with 10,000 food items—including frozen hams, milk, potatoes, tomatoes and fresh pineapples—shopping carts and bags. Volunteers, including the Schreiner men’s soccer team, unloaded and distributed the food in the Robbins-Lewis Pavilion on the Schreiner campus.

The soccer players, pictured above, took care of most of the heavy lifting, making sure everyone could get their food out of the pavilion and loaded into cars. Left to right, the soccer players are Shane Heffernen, coach Paul Hayes, Tim Martinez, Taylor Bontz, Tanner Overstake, Robert Vasquez, Chris Valdez, Tom Pappas and Bobby Crisman.
