Banding together at Schreiner

Dr. Donald Crandall

Strike up the band!  Schreiner University’s new concert band will debut at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, in the Dietert Auditorium on the Schreiner campus. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will feature two conductors, Fred Klaener and Charles Sander. The band is made up of some 40 musicians, including Schreiner faculty, students and community members.

“For a while now I’ve had students approach me and ask if Schreiner has a concert band,” said Dr. Donald Crandall, assistant professor of music at Schreiner. “Until this semester I have told them that we have only a symphony orchestra and the Schreiner Pep Band. Along with the students I have also had members of the community approach me and express an interest in bringing back a community band that existed a few years back.”

The result of all this interest is the Schreiner Concert Band, which Crandall hopes will become a permanent part of the Schreiner/Kerrville music scene.
