National Merit Finalist to call Schreiner University home
Chase Smith, a National Merit finalist, will attend Schreiner University in the fall, and he couldn’t be more pleased.
“I like the small class size and the atmosphere at Schreiner,” he said. “It also is close to home, which I like. “
Smith, who is wrapping up his senior year at Our Lady of the Hills High School, plays wide midfielder and is excited to get on the pitch with a soccer coach he respects and has known for years.
“I’ve known Paul Hayes for years,” he said. “I get to play for a coach I really enjoy, and I’m excited about that.”
When it comes to the classroom, Smith said he is leaning toward studying English. He loves to read and write in his spare time, and he begun to write his own fiction novel.
“I am going to speak with a man who writes books on wildlife biology,” he said. “I love the outdoors, and I don’t want to be stuck at a desk for the rest of my life.”
Despite being undecided about his major at the time, Smith is looking forward to the college experience and playing soccer at a collegiate level, and he isn’t the only one.
“My parents are really excited,” he said. “My mom will be at every game.”
